Transfer of heat between two solid interfaces i. At the hot interface of a heat pipe, a liquid in contact with a thermally conductive solid surface turns into vapor by absorbing heat from that surface. This vapor then travels along the heat pipe to the cold interface and condenses back into a liquid thus by releasing the latent heat. The liquid then returns to the hot interface through either capillary action, centrifugal force or gravity and the cycle repeats.

One end of the heat pipe is heated by the working fluid inside the pipe which evaporates and increases the vapor pressure inside the cavity of the heat pipe. The latent heat of evaporation absorbed by the vaporization of the working fluid reduces the temperature at the hot end of the pipe.

The lower temperature limit typically occurs a few degrees above the freezing point of the working fluid. In these cases the sharp edges transfer the fluid through capillary action and no wick is necessary. On a first look a heat pipe seems to be a very easy tool to transport energy, but if one looks closer, it is a very complex heat and mass transfer process which takes place in a heat pipe.

First of all ,one has convective heat transfer in the adiabatic transport range and other has convection through porous materials cotton also. Furthermore there are capillary effects like pressure effects and heat conduction effects have been involved which create a complex structure of heat transfer, where a lot of knowledge is involved.

And all of these points can be treated as a own problem. In the place of copper, sintered powder has been used with cotton as a wick material in order to produce cooling effect in a cheapest way. A heat pipe is a heat-transfer device that combines the principles of both thermal conductivity and phase transition to effectively transfer heat between two solid interfaces. At the hot interface of a heat pipe, a liquid in contact with a thermally conductive solid surface turns into a vapor by absorbing heat from that surface. The vapor then travels along the heat pipe to the cold interface and condenses back into a liquid, releasing the latent heat. The liquid then returns to the hot interface through either capillary action , centrifugal force , or gravity and the cycle repeats. Due to the very high heat transfer coefficients for boiling and condensation , heat pipes are highly effective thermal conductors.

The operating principles of heat pipes HP are expounded, along with a discussion of different types of HP, and the underlying theory, design, and fabrication of HP. Working fluids, wick configurations, reservoirs, and pipe materials are dealt with, and cleaning, assembly, evacuation, charging, and closure of HP are covered. Capillary action, sonic limitation, entrainment limitation, boiling limitation, interface conditions, startup difficulties, and control and modulation of HP are discussed.
